Business Advisory Grounded in Real Ownership Experience
For more than twenty years, I believed I was building a successful business.
Only after leaving it did I realise I had been learning something far more valuable.
I had been learning how businesses behave.
Businesses behave exactly as they have been designed to behave.
Owners behave exactly as their businesses require them to behave.
Change the design, and both begin to change.
That insight now underpins everything I do.
Some advice comes from theory.
Other advice comes from building, leading, and successfully exiting a business.
The Co-Advisor was built on the belief that business owners benefit most from practical guidance grounded in real ownership experience, not generic consulting language or short-term business trends.
As Founder of Co-Advisor, I understand the pressures of business ownership because I have lived them.
From start-up through growth, operational complexity, leadership development and eventual exit, every stage of my journey involved decisions with real financial, operational and personal consequences.
Over more than two decades, I helped build and scale a specialised manufacturing and industrial supply business from start-up into a nationally recognised operation serving heavy industry, infrastructure, mining, defence, OEM manufacturers and established distributor networks across Australia and international markets.
The business grew to more than $10 million in annual revenue with over 40 employees, supported by structured operating systems, national and international supplier networks, and an autonomous leadership team before its successful sale.
Looking back, I realised I had not simply built a business.
I had spent more than twenty years observing how businesses respond to growth, pressure and complexity.
That experience became the foundation of my advisory philosophy, the Freedom by Design System™, the Co-Advisor Commercial Thinking System™, and my book, Engineered to be Free.
Today, I work with owners of manufacturing, industrial supply and trade businesses to strengthen the capabilities that create long-term performance:
My role is not to tell owners how to run their business.
It is to help redesign the business so it no longer depends on them.
Because businesses behave exactly as they have been designed to behave.
Change the design, and both begin to change.
The founder, Siem, professional background that includes:
This ensures clients benefit from both practical ownership experience and structured professional advisory standards.
Good advice should simplify complexity, not add to it.
Siem’s advisory approach focuses on:
This helps businesses:
Sustainable business performance is built over time through consistency, discipline, and operational structure.
Not short-term intensity.
Trust is built through consistency, transparency, and practical results.
Advisory work is supported by structured frameworks, professional accreditation, and disciplined business processes designed to deliver:
Not opinions.
Not generic recommendations.
Not theoretical business advice.
Just practical advice grounded in real ownership experience and operational reality.
Business owners often face:
During these moments, an experienced external perspective becomes valuable.
Clients value the combination of:
Because strong advice is not about creating dependency.
It is about helping owners make better decisions with greater clarity and confidence.
The role of a Co-Advisor is not to stand on the sidelines.
It is to work alongside business owners through:
Not telling owners what to do.
Not disappearing once a plan is written.
But helping leadership teams maintain clarity, accountability, operational discipline, and stronger long-term decision-making as the business evolves.
Because businesses operate better when owners have a trusted external perspective, structured support, and experienced guidance they can rely on.
The businesses that create long-term success are rarely built through reactive decisions alone.
They are built through:
That is the philosophy behind The Co-Advisor.
Helping businesses become stronger, more valuable, and less dependent on constant reactive effort.
Because stronger businesses create greater freedom, flexibility, and long-term opportunity for the people behind them.
